A woman has revealed she now makes over £20,000 a year on TikTok – despite only being a “micro-influencer”.

Kat Leech shares money-saving tips and tricks on her page (@katsaves), having previously made headlines for her comparison videos of different supermarket pricing.

The 27-year-old content creator from Manchester tells AbsolutelyBusiness that she makes a significant “wage” on TikTok, despite her relatively low following of 37,000 fans.

In a video shared on the app, she shares a month-by-month breakdown of her earnings throughout 2023.

The micro-influencer claims to have earned £21,137 before tax – saying she works around 20 hours a week on her account.

“I make a full-time wage on TikTok and I don’t even have that many followers,” she said.

“I do own a limited company, which does give me tax benefits and things like that.”

The amount she earned per month fluctuated though – with Kat making nothing in January, having just started her page, but building to a peak of £4,918 in December.

She is now urging her followers to consider trying out content creation themselves.

Kat said: “If you’ve always wanted to make money through TikTok, this is your sign.

“You do not need a lot of followers at all.

“I made a full-time wage.

“Obviously, it’s not a huge full-time wage, but this year I am absolutely going to double it.”

In a separate video, Kat shared her tips on how to get started by monetising TikTok accounts.

PICK A SEARCHABLE NICHE:

She said: “The first thing you need to do is pick a searchable, monetisable niche.”

To do this, the influencer looked at what was big news and decided to focus on money-saving tricks.

Kat said: “What’s going on in the world right now? Cost of living crisis.

“There is a huge cost of living crisis.

“People are literally searching for how to save money on food [and] shopping.

“That is why I chose this niche, because people are actively searching for it every single day.”

KEYWORDS:
To attract an audience, Kat says it is essential to use the right keywords – and then to put them “everywhere”.

She said: “Find those keywords in your niche, find things that people are searching for, make videos, put keywords in your bio, put keywords in your caption, in your video, in your hashtags.

“Find those keywords and literally put them everywhere.”

EDUCATE YOURSELF:

After selecting the niche, Kat recommends educating yourself on your chosen topic prior to posting.

She said: “To build your TikTok account and start earning money from it, you need to pick a really good niche and you need to actually educate yourself.

“Educate yourself on how to make good videos [and] educate yourself on everything to do with that niche that you’ve picked.”

BE CONSISTENT:

While Kat says you do not need to post constantly, consistency is key – and regular posting does help.

She said: “When I first started, I was posting two videos a day, I started doing three a day, [but] now I only do one a day because I’m way too busy for that.”

BRANDS:

An essential part of earning money as a TikTokker is through brand deals.

Kat said: “Once you’ve got your account set up and running, you are posting every single day and getting those keywords in, [and] you’re putting in all the effort – that is when you will start to gain followers [and] views, you’ll get a lot of traction.

“People will start to be interested in you and brands will come to you.

“It took me two months to create this TikTok account until I started earning money from this account – it is that easy.”
