A man who was constantly grumpy says he was actually going through ‘male menopause’.

When Phil Whittaker began experiencing strange symptoms like brain fog and insomnia in 2017 and he quickly became “concerned”.

Then insomnia hit and he began to feel “numb”.

Doctors diagnosed the 44-year-old from Buckinghamshire with hypogonadism – a sudden drop in testosterone – often referred to as the ‘male menopause’.

They prescribed a lifestyle change alongside an artificial hormone gel – but Phil didn’t want to stay on this longterm due to the side effects.

When he began losing hair in his beard, he decided enough was enough – going on a mission to find a solution of his own.

“I felt numb and grumpy all the time, with a real lack of joy for my usual passions,” Phil told Absolutely Business.

“I also developed a 20p size bald patch in my beard – this was the final straw.

“I think when symptoms become ‘visual’, it’s hard to put off and ignore.

“After my diagnosis, I was told to change my lifestyle.

“Doctors also prescribed a testosterone gel but drugs of this kind have been linked to long-term issues, so I didn’t want to stay on it for too long.

“I started to look at natural alternatives, products to help with brain fog, sleep and energy.”

With the help of wife Kaz, 40, Phil did his own research and felt there were no adequate products on the market.

So, he created his own mushroom brand.

Phil said: “I researched functional mushrooms and tried some products, but they were just not good enough.

“The mushrooms have been used in Chinese medicine for centuries.

“But we wanted to find a pure version, so researched and found high quality products.

“Some were in coffee but I didn’t want to always be drinking coffee as obviously caffeine is not good for anxiety or sleep.

“Powders ended up ‘muddy’ and most of it dried up in the container so I wanted something more versatile.”

Combining mushrooms with water and other ingredients, Phil used the product for three months.

He claims to have soon returned back to his previous jolly self.

His pride and joy – his beard – also looked healthier.

This soon led to Phil launching Cognihax, a natural wellness company.

Phil claims to have sold out of his product – Cognihax Boost – within the first nine days.

He is now sharing his story and advice on what to look out for to help men everywhere.

Phil added: “I feel fantastic!

“My levels are back to normal and I am now happily running Cognihax with my wife.

“Most doctors would possibly hear your symptoms and write a prescription of anti-depressants.

“Monitor your own emotional engagement and always share your feelings with those who know you best, as they will be able to see the symptoms.

“Push for a blood test for testosterone levels and look into lifestyle changes.”
